Jumping Back In

Well I thought I would try to jump back into this. The word for Monday November 26th over at HSMS was WET. Today was certainly wet when I got up. We had thunderstorms all night and it was still raining when I got up. So out came the camera to take some pics. Then I was reading the blogs and saw what todays prompt was. So here are my three favs out of the ones I took.

For a 4 year old boy this is very sad. Did it matter when the seat came off. Not in the least. Just throw that seat away and ride on. But then the front wheel came off. Now that is a whole new ball game.

Seems to me most everyone has been tagged so I won't tag anyone.

1) It took me 7 years to get pregnant the second time. So there are 9 years between I two children.
2) There is nine years difference between my second child and my first grandchild.
3) To carry this theme even farther there is 9 years difference between my oldest grandson and my youngest daughters first child.
4) I was the first female to deliver auto parts to auto shops/garages in my town.
5) I had rather drive a raggedy old pick up than an new car.
6) Mine and Hubbys 32nd anniversary will be December 6th.

So I got my new camera and I am thrilled with it. First the squirrel he was running across the wire and I was holding the camera and had the phone held with shoulder and cheek talking to hubby when I snapped. Figured I would have nothing but a blur. He is a little blurry, but, seeing as he was one of the first day pictures and I had to snatch the camera up and was on the phone I am surprised I got anything even resembling a squirrel.
Next is some kind of big bird. Hubby says sounds like an eagle from the coloring. But I also got some pics of him in a tree and the shape of his head looks like a vulture. So I am not sure. Either way I got about 25 pics of him flying and in the tree. With my last camera I would have never gotten him flying. might have got 3 or 4 of him in the time he was in the tree.

So todays I played with some. Not a great pic but there it is. I think I need some fake eyelashes. Or implants....

Playing Catch up again

I have been waiting all week on my new camera. I went with a Canon 30d. I had lenses and batteries from the Rebel (that I killed) that would work with it. So it seemed the thing to do. So the catch up pics are all made today with the new camera. Now mind you I have a lot of learning to do on everything this camera will do. BUT I must say I think I am in love.... It is so much faster than other cameras I have owned. I love the weight of it. My Rebel just felt to light with a zoom lens. Not this baby. It feels more balanced. I always felt with the Rebel that I was moving the camera because it was so light weight when I would push the shutter. Now don't get me wrong I got some great pics with the Rebel. But I wore out the shutter on it, after only 20,000 pics. Hope this one lasts longer. It's shutter is rated at 100,000. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Excuse the fact that you can see the air conditioner. But it being there is one of the reasons I like this part of the bedroom. I also love the wicker chairs and tables. I makes for a quite nook to read in. See my gargoyle on the window ledge. There is a second one on the other side of the air conditioner.

SOS at HSMS
So todays pictures are Halloween themed. Oldest Daughter is the DJ and her boyfriend is the bouncer at a small club just down the road for our house. Tonight is the Halloween party and they went dressed for it. I did her eye makeup not that you can tell alot about it and glitzed the wings up some. Also made his necklaces from chipboard and then embossed them. Yep I played around with these pictures , don't even know what all I did to them. Just playing.
Now could some of you kind ladies answer a question for me. I am looking at getting a new camera. I had a Canon Digi Rebel(300D). So I have lenses and such for a Canon. I have been looking at the 30D. Does anyone out there have one and if you do what do you think of it? Thanks for any help any of you might be able to give.

So todays word was Bathroom. I hate my bathroom. It needs completely redoing. We still have done nothing to it since we moved in except paint a few times. But my oldest daughter painted this saying on the ugly pink ceramic tiles surrounding the tub. Those words help it some. You will have to excuse the glare on this one, my bath has no natural light so had to use the flash.

Hey ladies thought since so many mentioned on yesterdays that they didn't know what they were I would tell. I guess they would be called gazing (or witch's) balls in my yard. They are on a "Stick" made of copper and the metal that holds them in place is also copper.

Ok now to todays word Pink for HSMS. When my ODD was pregnant for the 5th time with the first 4 being all boys. We passed a car dealership and they had great big blow up mama and baby pink elephants on top of the building. ODD said it is a sign I am finally going to have a girl. I told her I would believe it when I saw the baby girl. ODD said Nope it is a sign and her theme is going to be pink elephants. Sure enough the ultrasound said it was a girl. I swear I still did not believe it until she was born. But we bought lots of pink elephants. I now have 7 grandchildren and she is the only girl. So todays picture is of one of my one and only (so far) grand daughter's pink elephants.

OK trying to play catch up for HSMS. Maybe I have it all together now and won't get so far behind again. OK so I have it together and now blogger will not let me upload pics. Try again later. It's later and finally blogger is working.

First up Steps. Not your typical steps, but one of the many steps to growing up. Miss RonnieBug eating her first pizza.

Next up another of RonnieBug sticking her TONGUE out. One of her favorite things to do.
SPS 8. Not a very good pic. So I played with it's color, now it's color matches my mood. But it does show what I do loads of the time.
SOS 8 I have two to show off this week. Neither one for anything other than the fact that they make me smile. First Grandson Keenan being all boy. Look at that smile. As he plays(tortures) a toad he found in the yard.
Next up Miss Banna. I love it on the rare(lately) occasions that I get a pic of her with a smile that lights up her eyes and whole face.
And last but not least RED. Love this shot cause it looks kinda like a mask. What it really is, is a cast iron red candle holder with a 4" brown pillar candle in it. This is just a small part of it.

A close up of a leaf in my yard. I absolutely hate the tree these come from. They drop these seed pods in the fall also, that make a terrible mess and hurt like hell if you step on them with no shoes on which I am almost always barefoot.
This is a an art challenge I did last fall. I drew the pumpkin, and stars. The leaves are silk, and the moon is a sticker.

So yesterdays SPS was my tattoo of my grandson who drowned when he was 4 years old. That was 7.5 years ago and the pictures I am showing today are still the most important pictures I have. They are the last pictures taken of him. 2 days before he died he was at my house and picked up my camera and told me to take his picture. He was a very bossy in a way that we mostly didn't mind 4 year old. I really didn't want to take the time to take his picture. I was in the process of getting ready for his Aunt LaLa's 15th birthday party. But take them I did. Now I would not trade these few pictures as small and grainy as they are for all the money in the world. His aunts birthday party 2 nights later was the last time we would see him alive. The last picture was taken a few months before, it is the main picture the tattoo was designed from.

He had a blast posing for these pictures.

My favorite of them.
But a close second, Because of the happiness in those big brown eyes.
His mom's fav of them.
This one shows how long his hair was. Even tho you can't tell it in the other pics,because he had it in the pony tail. As he so often did.
And this is the one my tattoo was done from, except for I lengthened his bangs for the tat because they were usually longer than in this pic.

Self Portrait Saturday
Today I am showing the second tattoo I ever got. It is my grandson (Ty)as the angel he is now. I have him on my left shoulder and his mom has him on her hip. I took two pictures of him and using those transformed him into an angel. For the wings I used one wing and just flipped it to make the other one. His mom kept telling me one wing was bigger than the other. I told her that was not possible. Finally to satisfy her I resized one of them to make them look to her the same size. Then she was quite pleased with my rendition of our angel. So off to the tattoo shop with it we went. He did mine first, then on to mom's. When he went to do hers, he said he was going to do hers a little different than mine. Nothing major just a little different. When he was done with hers what had he done different. He had made one wing just a little smaller than the other one. She says that was Ty playing a trick on her from the other side. His whole life he loved to play tricks and aggravate us. So I guess his last trick on his mom was the wings on her tattoo.

Question about yesterday's shot. The DOF was done in camera. Settings were ISO 100, 1/60th shutter speed, f-stop 2.8, no flash. I focused just to the left of the corner of the sponge. Thanks for all the comments about the angle. Funny story there my window ledge has an oblong hole in it for some reason and I stuck the corner of the sponge down in the hole. Taped tissue paper to the window, to soften the light. Then snapped away. See picture below for set up.

Mine today is a set of Salt and Pepper Shakers. They were my grandmother's. When she died my mother gave them to me. I am not sure how old they are, she had them for as long as I can remember. I can remember playing with them as a child. On the other hand my grandson thought they were creepy and made me turn them around so he could not see their faces. After he died I turned them around so you could see their faces again. For months I would turn them where you could see their faces and in a day or two they would be turned back facing the wall, so you could not see their faces. They were in a knick knack case hanging on my kitchen wall at the time.

This little one was flying all around me and the grand daughter while we were doing the self portrait. He stayed around until we got done with each other so I took his portrait. he would flit to a spot stay just long enough for me to get a pic and then do the same a few feet away.

So here we are again. I kinda cheated today. Well it is a portrait of self but, I had some help today. My 6 year old grand daughter took my pics and I took hers. So below are some of our favorites. First up my 2 favorite ones of me and the third one of me is me being silly with her. Let me tell you this child has an eye way better than mine. Just give her a camera (which we did last Christmas, her own digital) and turn her loose. You never know what she might take a picture of. She sees art in trash and it works.

This is Miss Banna Hold(ing) her favorite doll of all time. Now if you look close you can see that her baby is about to lose a leg. You can't see it but she is also about to lose an arm. But even tho she owns about 25 other dolls this is the one she wants. It was her Aunt LaLas (Shutter Ladybug) doll so it is about 20 years old. I am not at all sure what we will do when it is beyond help. I thought I would take it apart and make it a new body. But... the legs and arms are actually sewn onto the vinyl arms and legs. So now I have no clue. We have asked her why this one is her favorite and shown her all the dolls in town trying to get her a new one but nope. That one doesn't open and close its eyes or it's hair is wrong, or its body is to hard or to soft. My oh my what will we do? I think really it is her favorite cause it used to be her Aunts.

This is the day when Kirsty and i take a little rest and you can post any photo (past or present) that you are particularly pleased with. It could be that you are pleased with the composition of the photo, a technical aspect, or it is just a moment that you are glad that you captured. It doesn't have to fit any theme, so you are completely free to choose and tell why.

Ok so I am having a real hard time picking just 1 or 2 or 100. Sooo I picked my favorite wedding pictures I have taken over the last 5.5 years. Haha How is an even dozen for you. But believe me I will not run out of favorites any time soon.
Be warned it takes a long time to load all of these and you can not click these for larger view.

First up my oldest daughter on her Wedding day. I love the lighting in this one. It was a total accident how this pic turned out.

Next my youngest daughter Angela on her wedding day. She said she loves the lighting on this pic. And 5 years later it is still her favorite of her and her hubby. I love it for the memories of how happy he made(makes) her.

Next up are 2 of my sister on her wedding day. I made her dress and flowers. The second of these pictures I love because she was barefoot and let me take a picture like that even tho she hates her feet.

Next are pictures of my nieces wedding.
With my granddaughter the flower girl. This picture is so them. Even with the bride ready to go down the aisle she was tickling Banna and they were having a grand time as they always do.

Self Portrait Saturday

This weekend we are introducing two new features to HSMS, just to keep you on your photography toes! The first of these will be a new regular 'Self Portrait Saturday'. Take the opportunity once a week to practice your portrait skills and make a record of your changing self.
So, go for it !!! ...S.P.S = self portrait saturday(That is what the Her space My space blog said this morning.)

OK so maybe this is cheating a little, then again maybe it is not. As so many of you have said I hate to be in front of the camera. Maybe that is why most of us are the photographers, that way we can stay out of the pics.

One of my favorite flowers are Gardenias. I have 5 big bushes of them in my yard. Right now two of them are full of blooms. They don't look that great at the moment cause they are so far into the blooming. But there are still about as many buds left on them as there are blooms. They sure smell good right now even if they don't look that great.

Angel in my garden. Jamie bought this last year it has a little boy angel with an arm and wing around a little girl. Those of you who know about us will know the meaning behind this. Savanna was born 9 months after Ty died. So they never met. But right after she was born her and our dog would watch the same places in the living room. She would smile and the dog would bark. We always felt that Ty was there watching over the baby sister that he had so wanted before he died. So when we saw this statue we had to have it.

Ok so I am slacking on this blog too. Sorry folks. Today I am showing off Grandchildren. First up Keenan and Will acting silly while eating.

Next up is Will making faces at me. He is spending 2 weeks with us while his Mom(my YDD) and Dad celebrate their 5 year anniversary and get ready to move.

Next are two picture of Miss Banna doing what is her favorite thing lately. Jumping on the tramoline with some pom-poms Jen gave her.

This is Banna in her favorite napping place she was about 1 year old when this picture was made. Holding her is Gerald and he held her a lot in her first year of life. Gerald had a big hand in spoiling the hell out of the princess. He is a good friend of her Mom and Dad so he was around a lot.

5 years later he was here last night. She wanted him to sing to her. So he was singing her to sleep after a few minutes he said this baby is out. She is sleeping hard. Her Mom got up to get her and put her to bed. When she went to take her she told Gerald. You have been had she is not asleep she is playing possum. That child can fake sleep like nobodies business. Even down to you can pick her arm or leg up and let it go and it flops down when you turn it loose. So my DH calls her Possum Eyes. After she has you convinced she really is asleep this time she will come up laughing.

I got an e-mail wondering if everything was OK. Because it has been a while since I posted here. Thank you for the concern. Everything is fine. Just little things eating away at my time. Maybe I can get back on track. Last weekend DH came home. He is planning on getting a new laptop real soon. My laptop was real slow and did not have a big enough hard drive so I was to get his when he got a new one. But he is so nice that he gave his up while he was home. So I have been transferring files and trying to get it set up as I like and need. I think I might have it about like I want it now. Also on Monday Banna had her checkup from her surgery. She is doing great. Her Doctor is in the town that got hit by the tornado's so we took some pictures while there. Her doctors office and the surgery center where she had her surgery and her pediatrician's office were all hit by it. Not major but some damage to all three. Her ENT was the only one open when we were there and her Doctor said they had just got power back that morning at 8:15. If all that was not enough excitement my niece was at the hospital one block from Banna's Doctor's office. We thought she was in labor, but, she wasn't she had to walk around for 2 hours to see if it would bring it on but it didn't so they sent her home. Still no baby as of right now. Below are some pictures of the tornado damage. So be warned if you do not want to see them. I must say the pictures really do not show the full extent of the damage.

#22 March In like a lion

Whoever said March comes in like a lion was not kidding for us today. TORNADOS. Hate those things. In the town where Banna had her surgery (Enterprise Alabama) about 20 miles from us, one got the High School. 5 dead in the school or 15 or somewhere in between depending on what news you are listening to. They were closing schools all around us. In fact the schools in our town called us and said they were sending the kids home early. But not early enough for our kids or those in Enterprise. they got all but 2 buses loaded at our school. Wouldn't you know our kids were left at the school. Then the news was saying there was a tornado about 1 mile from us. We couldn't get the school on the phone to find out where the kids were. Finally when it calmed down here we were getting in the car to go to the school and the bus driver called and said they were still at the school. So we went and got them. On the way back home we heard on the radio about the High School in Enterprise. Our television station says there are 8 confirmed dead and 7 more missing at the school. But other news reports are saying anywhere from 5-15 dead, so we still don't know.
We are OK in our house and our house is fine. DH's uncle and two of his three boys have damage to their houses. They are chicken farmers and all 8 of the chicken houses were destroyed. But they are all physically OK.
This first pic is of the sky as we were going to get the boys from school. Their school is only about 1/2 mile from the house.

These next pics are not the best in the world as they are from the TV. All 3 are pictures from the school. They say the back wall of it imploded onto some of the students and teachers. At our late news 10pm local time they are still looking through the rubble for 7 missing people. Keep these families in your thoughts.

Next door to the Art Gallery is a burned out building. Some one thinks it is also an art gallery. Some of the drawings are done in chalk some in I don't know what. The blue eye has been there for months but without the blue it was just black, back when Jamie took the first pictures of it we took. But the day of the shower it had a blue chalk iris. The children played in here for most of the baby shower.

Jamie out front of The Art Gallery where we held the baby shower. Showing for the month was quilts. We thought that was great for a Baby Shower. They rent the place out to you for $25 for 3 hours. $5 for each additional hour. Or they will rent it to you for $150 for 3 whole days. They open up for you and then come close up for you otherwise you have the place to yourself. It was a real nice place to hold the baby shower. They even have tables and chairs for you to use. Our party was small enough that they had couches and love seats set up in one area that we used. It was almost like being in your own living room, except you have really cool art work(in our case quilts) to look at. Tomorrow I will show the inside.

So today was my nieces baby shower. We gave it for her (oldest DD and I). We held it at the art gallery in our town. Below are pictures of the corsage I made for the mom-to-be. The baby in the corsage I made with polymer clay. Her blanket was stamped with rubber stamps. Then painted it with acrylic paint and wiped off most of it. I was not real happy with the hand, but oh well. I really wanted it smaller but I just could not do it any smaller overall the baby was only about 1.5 inches long.

I think this is what Flassie was talking about over at Violette's Message Board. Banna is in Kindergarten and had to make one. We forgot to put the hole in it to start with so removed the small pink heart in the middle of the top and cut a 1/4 inch by 3 inch slot in it. So it will be used like a mail box and the kids will go around and place everyones Valentines in their boxes.
